Join the Comprehensive Survey of Jazz in the South of England

A wide-ranging call out has been issued to everyone working in jazz in the South of England to get in touch via the Jazz South survey at http://bit.ly/jazzsouthaudit and help this unique development project achieve maximum coverage.

New Jazz Development Project

Jazz South is a brand new three-year initiative to help develop opportunities for jazz across a region that embraces all of South East and South West England – from Kent to Cornwall to Oxfordshire (but does not include London).

Led and hosted by Turner Sims Southampton, with funding from Arts Council England, Jazz South is a programme that will provide a range of new opportunities in the region including touring, commissions, master classes and other education work, residentials and networking events.

First Essential Step – A Survey

Knowing who’s doing what and where and identifying a comprehensive range of contacts is the best way to ensure that Jazz South can engage with as many people as possible.

So, the first step in rolling out the Jazz South programme is active research to establish an accurate picture of every aspect of the jazz scene in the region.

Turner Sims has commissioned music specialists Arts & Parts Ltd to undertake a full audit of the region.

Through the online Jazz South survey they are seeking information from musicians, promoters, venues, festivals, youth orchestras, education projects, labels – in fact anyone and anything connected with the music.

Jazzwise magazine, a partner in the initiative, is encouraging everyone active in the region’s scene to pitch in, offering a free year’s subscription to the magazine and a Jazzwise T-shirt in a prize draw among all those who fill in the complete online survey.
